About Us

The Fire & EMS Scholars Group is a specialized initiative within Science to the Station designed specifically for individuals with both advanced degrees and fire service experience. We create a unique bridge between academic expertise and practical firefighting knowledge, leveraging this dual perspective to transform research into actionable solutions.

Our community welcomes established researchers with PhDs and other terminal degrees alongside emerging scholars who are currently pursuing their education while maintaining connections to emergency services. This inclusive approach ensures we support scholars at all stages of their academic journey while maintaining strong ties to operational realities.

mission

We have a twofold mission: first, we translate complex scientific findings into accessible formats like one-pagers, Science 360 reports, and live webinars tailored specifically for fire and EMS professionals. Second, we foster a collaborative network that provides mentorship and professional development opportunities for both established and emerging scholars, with special emphasis on supporting those currently navigating academic programs.

The Scholars Group champions the integration of research into policy and practice, maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity while ensuring our work delivers practical value to the fire and emergency services community.

OPPORTUNITY awaits…

What distinguishes our group is the requirement that members possess both scholarly credentials and practical fire/EMS experience. This dual qualification ensures our work maintains scientific rigor while remaining grounded in the operational challenges faced by emergency responders.

Through mentorship programs, collaborative research opportunities, and professional networking, we support scholars at every career stage—from graduate students to established researchers. Our focus on emerging scholars helps cultivate the next generation of fire service researchers who can continue bridging the gap between evidence and application.
